Florida Engineering Education Conference

Why an engineering education conference? The future of the State of Florida is dependent on a strong engineering workforce to maintain and sustain innovation led, economic growth. This comes at a time globally when competition for engineering talent is intensifying, foreign countries are graduating an increasing number of baccalaureate engineers, and American companies are outsourcing engineering jobs to other countries. It also comes at a time nationally when a large percentage of our senior (baby-boomer) engineers are contemplating retirement; the number of native-born U.S. engineering graduates entering the workforce continues to decline; and our K12 educational systems are graduating fewer students interested in engineering careers. The State of Florida needs to heighten pre-college (K12) engineering education awareness. We refer to this as Building Engineering Education Infrastructure and our conference is an important step towards identifying who is doing what in STEM education in Florida.
